About Getting Married in Costa Rica

Getting married in Costa Rica can be one of the least stressfull ways of getting married.

There are no prerequisites by the government of Costa Rica for foreigners getting married, such as minimum length of stay.

Generally speaking, legal identification from one's own country is required. A valid passport with at least 30 days of validity will suffice. You may fax the details to your lawyer in Costa Rica before-hand so he can get the paperwork all ready in time for your arrival.

2 witnesses are required, one on each side. Practically anyone can be a witness, a friend, family member or an acquiantence.

You can be married in a civil ceremony at the location of the lawyer's office or, for an additional cost, the ceremony can be held at the hotel (most hotels have space available for such) or on the beach or another location in Costa Rica.

It is always good to confirm all details with a lawyer in Costa Rica and setting up an appointment well ahead so that all can be ready in time when you and your loved one(s) arrive.
